Literacy for Learning, Living, and Leading Podcasts
 Inform Community Efforts to Advance Literacy


The Georgia Department of Education is producing 25-minute podcasts that explore innovative strategies and state and local resources that can inform community efforts to advance literacy. Community leaders, educators, and others engage in conversations about how to promote literacy in unexpected ways, how school districts can strengthen partnerships with local libraries, how to support learning at home, and more.

Recent topics include:

  • the Books, Barbers & Beauticians youth literacy initiative headed by the Rome Floyd County Commission on Children and Youth that enables youth to read and engage in healthy language nutrition while receiving hair care services;
  • addressing some of the partnership needs and supports to provide rich literacy experiences that are equitable for all children and families;
  • Georgia Home Classroom, which offers instructional TV broadcasts aligned to Georgia’s state standards along with a library of digital learning resources to support at-home learning;
  • the benefits of placing simple and available literacy resources in laundromats;
  • connecting with students virtually and connecting with students that are multi-lingual; and
  • how school districts can partner with local libraries.
