Get Georgia Reading Campaign Receives Communications Awards

The Get Georgia Reading Campaign recently received two communications awards from the National Campaign for Grade-Level Reading (GLR) for “Best Print Collateral” and “Best Video” as part of the inaugural Communications Expo held during GLR Week in Denver, Colo., in June. The Campaign was also a finalist in the Website category.

“We received over 150 entries from GLR communities sharing their most effective and innovative communications assets used to tell the GLR Story,” said Ernestine Benedict, chief communications officer of the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading. “It is our aim that this peer-sharing opportunity will serve as a catalyst for further collaboration among GLR communities.”

An advisory panel of communications experts selected 10 finalists for each of the nine categories, and the top three awardees for each category were announced during GLR Week.

“An Introduction to Get Georgia Reading” was honored in the print category. This brief narrative booklet introduces the Campaign and its approach to promoting reading proficiency for all children. The “Meet Baby Ella” video emphasizes that talking with your baby helps the baby’s brain grow. It was created in partnership with Talk With Me Baby, a collaborative that works to ensure all infants and children receive abundant Language Nutrition to support early brain development.

Kristin Bernhard, deputy commissioner for system reform for Bright from the Start: Department of Early Care and Learning, accepted Georgia’s awards on behalf of the Campaign Cabinet.

“Get Georgia Reading has always placed an emphasis on effectively telling our story and sharing the real faces that are impacting early language and literacy development in our state,” said Bernhard. “Getting to accept these national awards on behalf of the Cabinet was an honor for me—and a reminder to keep sharing our work.”
